DEFORMATION MONITORING

Deformation monitoring, also known as a deformation survey, requires the methodical measurement of objects in order to monitor potential deviations in size or formation. Over time forces can cause problematic changes to infrastructure and therefore must be watched for maintenance and preservation. The precise measurements gathered during deformation surveys are used to determine whether any alterations to structures are within acceptable limits or are significant enough to require attention.

Deformation monitoring serves an essential purpose in fields such as civil and mechanical engineering, construction and geology. They can be required to monitor roads, bridges and viaducts, old and high-rise buildings, foundations and construction sites, and volcano, landslide or earthquake zones. We use total stations, precise levelling, and global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) to carry out these surveys. Atlas Geomatics can accommodate both manual or automated remote deformation monitoring.
